Pitigliano

After countless turns, resting on a spur of tufa appears Pitigliano: beautiful village whose homes are often confused with the rock below, and vice versa. This town is the same for centuries: a maze of narrow streets that follow one another, sometimes alleys so narrow that is even hard to walk in. in Pitigliano, every era has left its mark: Etruscan, Roman and medieval. Every population has carved tufa creating a city under the city tunnels, wells, tombs, cellars. Remains of the ancient civilizations that have inhabited these areas are not only present in Pitigliano, but throughout the surrounding area, including the towns of Sovana and Sorano. We advise also to visit the Etruscan necropolis.

Sorano and Sovana

The town of Sorano is located in inner of Tuscany, in the heart of the Area del Tufo, a territory rich in Etruscan and Roman period, including cemeteries, roads and quarries sacred remains of ancient buildings and civil engineering. The old town is the strong point of the village of Sorano, given that this is a corner where time seems to stand to the Middle Ages, with houses made of tuff, arches, narrow alleys, joining in a single road leading to the fortress, between these streets you can admire the Collegiate Church of St. Nicholas, sacred building was built in medieval times and has undergone profound alterations in later times, carried him upstairs, which connects the old town and the fortress's Palace, originally played the role of residence of the Orsini family.

Sovana is decleared one of the most beautiful “Borgo” d’Italia. Sovana is all between the Rocca and the Duomo, monuments that symbolize the political power of the Church and the spiritual Aldobrandeschi. Built in the eleventh century and restored by the Sienese and the Medici, had underground passages that communicate with other ports of Sovana, allowing easy movement of troops.
