ETNA

In terms of walks, Etna, is one of the most interesting places in Italy. There are several paths available. The first, not to be missed for the lover of trekking, is the one that leads to the top of the crater. It 's very easy, as is done by cable car (www.funiviaetna.com) and with the off-road but that does not make it less fascinating.When you walk on the black volcanic sand seems to be on another planet, if it were not for the sea, which appears on the horizon.
During the winter you can ski on Mount Etna (thanks to the ski slope on the south slopes and north) and excursions to the snow-shoe hiking, snow-covered lands from which they emerge through the most incredible lava formations.The walks themselves are made in the summer, with hiking boots, mountain bikes or horses. In any case it is always better to be accompanied by good guides who can lead us in the most important natural places, from the Valle del Bove (spettaccolare a rocky landscape, created by pouring thousands of years of lava flows) Gurrida Lake, to the unique caves lava, created by underground lava flow (Ente Parco Etna www.parcoetna.ct.it)

The green gold of Bronte: Pistachios

The XVI century baronial farmhouse together with its ancient wine cellar has been carefully restored. A wonderful wood surrounds the whole structure and from the swimming pool you can enjoy a splendid panoramic view of Taormina, while the peak of mount Etna is standing at your shoulders. “La Foresta del Salto del Corvo” is a farmhouse of eight hectares, with a certification for organic farming with a traditional terracing system. The main product is a class of cherries known as “Durone dell’Etna DOP”, but the farm also produces blood oranges, Clementines, plums and other fruits. Villa Lionti is an ancient and suggestive building -made out of manufactured lava stone -situated in a sunny and quiet location at the limits of San Pietro Clarenza, a small hilly village (450 metres on the sea level) populated by nearly 5000 inhabitants and placed on the slopes of the Aetna, on its South-Eastern side. In the outskirts of the property there are: the Parco Naturale dell' Etna (Natural Reserve), an extraordinary landscape -in between rough expenses of lava and sweet-scenting citrus fruit orchards -overlooked by the fuming top of the highest active volcano all over Europe; the Riviera dei Ciclopi (Coast of the Cyclopes) -a place full of myths and legends -with its peculiar fishermen's hamlets Aci Trezza and Aci Castello. The group of buildings -tracing back to the end of the eighteenth century -still maintains original architectural features brought back to their primitive charm through a lately completed accurate restoration. The exclusive residence is made up of a main building (consisting of the master's house and the house named Alcova) and other outbuildings (consisting of the remaining three lodgings and of the old millstone which has been turned into library and reading-room by now). Particularly suggestive and luring is the baglio (internal courtyard) with its ancient reservoir, the herbs' garden, the mill's court and the patio of the sails while all around the dwellings extends a huge garden with lawn and aromatic and ornamental plants. In a secluded -but easily within reach -zone of the estate lies the large swimming pool rimmed with lava stone. The hospitality to the guests is offered into four elegant and refined apartments which have been furnished with ancient style furniture of good taste and have either independent entrance and their own patio equipped with garden furniture.
