The Royal Palace of Caserta
The Royal Palace of Caserta is a priceless heritage, paying a visit is each time surprising. The complex was designed by Luigi Vanvitelli, as model of the Palace of Versailles and some say that in this case the model has been exceeded. The apartments are embellished with stucco work, statues, carvings, furniture, all imported by French. The paintings on the walls, Italian and Dutch authors of the nineteenth century, depicting the family Borgone. In the basement of the Palace are set designs, drawings, illustrating the work of the architect Vanvitelli. Do not miss the Royal Park, also designed by Vanvitelli and wanted by Maria Carolina of Austria, plenty of statues, fountains, rare and exotic plants. Currently, the Palace is also a center for contemporary art, it hosts the group 'Terrae Motus', who works in the rooms and exhibits: we must not therefore be surprised if, while we travel the wonderful baroque apartments, ikf we find surprisingly modern installations.
Seterie di San Leucio complex – a successful social experiment
San Leucio was home to a hunting lodge of the Acquaviva di Caserta known as the Belvedere Palace, now restored. When, in 1750, the possessions of the Acquaviva passed to the Bourbons of Naples, San Leucio became the seat of the royal silks. King Charles of Bourbon, recommended by the Minister Bernardo Tanucci, thought to be local youths sent to France to learn the art of weaving, and then worked in real factories. It was thus established in 1778 by architect Francis Collecini, a community known as the Royal Colony of San Leucio, based on a statute of 1789 which established special rules and regulations apply only to this community. Local workers were added to the beginning, even French artisans, from Genoa, Piedmont and Messina who settled in San Leucio recalled the many benefits enjoyed by workers in silk factories. In fact, workers in silk factories were allocated a house in the colony, and was also provided to family members free training and here the king founded in fact the first school in Italy that included male and female professional disciplines, and working hours were 11, while the rest of Europe had 14. The houses were designed taking into account all the planning rules of the time, so that would last over time (that are still inhabited) and from the beginning were equipped with running water and toilets. The women received a dowry from the king to marry a member of the colony, although available to all, there was a common pot "of love", where everyone paid a portion of their earnings. There was no difference between individuals whatever their work, the men and women enjoyed full equality in a system that was pin solely on meritocracy. It was abolished private property, guaranteed care for the elderly and infirm, and had enhanced the value of brotherhood. It was a social experiment, in the age of ”Lumi”, a cutting edge in the world, a model of justice and social equity in the rare countries in the eighteenth century and never so genuinely repeated in subsequent French Revolution and Marxism.
